Handel’s Messiah holds a place of honor among Christmas favorites. But there are many other gorgeous, though less well-known, pieces for the yuletide season. The Houston Chamber Choir, with the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, provides the best of both worlds with a performance of Franz Schubert’s sparkling Magnificat and the Christmas portion of Messiah. These contrasting works are perfect partners in expressing the joy of the season.
