Dr. Betsy Cook Weber currently serves as Artistic Director of the Grammy Award-winning Houston Chamber Choir and is active nationally and internationally as a conductor, clinician, adjudicator, and lecturer. Today, she is one of the few choral conductors in the world to have directed a large choral program at a top-tier university, the chorus of a major symphony orchestra, and now, a professional ensemble, the Houston Chamber Choir.

She began her career spending thirteen years as a K-5, then middle school, and later high school choral director.  She then served on the faculty of the University of Houston as Madison Endowed Professor and Director of Choral Studies as well as Director of the Houston Symphony Chorus.  Both organizations have awarded her Emeritus status. 

Under her direction, the University of Houston Concert Chorale was featured at numerous state and national conferences and won top prizes at prestigious competitions in Wales, France, Germany (2), Hungary, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, and Austria. The Concert Chorale enjoyed a worldwide Musica Mundi ranking of #1 among choirs consisting of singers under the age of 24 and was also listed in the top
ten ranking of Distinguished Collegiate Choirs in the U.S.  
 
The Houston Symphony Chorus, under her direction, performed with some of the world’s leading orchestral conductors including Juraj Valčuha, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Christoph Eschenbach, Jane Glover, and Nicholas McGegan, and recorded Haydn’s Die Schöpfung on the Pentatone label. During those years, the Chorus enjoyed two European tours, solo concerts, and performances with orchestras in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany.

Dr. Weber’s most important legacy is in helping to train legions of successful, creative (sometimes zany), and dedicated musicians who are changing the world one song at a time.
