What is houston chamber choir youth chorus?

The Houston Chamber Choir is proud to announce the inaugural Houston Youth Chorus! This auditioned SATB ensemble of 24 - 48 high school singers will perform side-by-side with the Houston Chamber Choir and Members of the Houston Symphony on HCC’s Opening Night, September 12, 2026.

  • The first round will require the singers to complete the student application form, including four recorded vocalises, and a parental acknowledgment form, including a one-time application fee of $20.00.

    These materials are due by March 25, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. We will notify singers in early April whether they are eligible to advance to the second round.

  • Singers who advance to the second round will receive the exact procedure to be used in early April so they can practice in advance. Generally, the second round will consist of sightreading eight-measure exercises from Sightreading Factory, Levels 4, 5, 6, major and minor keys. The sightreading round will take place by appointment, via Zoom, during the final week of April.

    • Friday, August 14, 5 - 8 pm; SATB sectionals

    • Saturday, August 15, 10 am - noon; 12:30 - 2:30 pm; SA/TB sectionals

    • Sunday, August 16, 2 - 5 pm; ST/AB sectionals

    • Friday, August 21, 5 - 8 pm; tutti HYC rehearsal

    • Saturday, August 22, 10 am - 12:30 pm (with HCC)

    • Sunday, August 23, 2 - 4 pm (with HCC)

    • Tuesday, September 8, 6 - 7:30 venue rehearsal with HCC & orchestra

    • Friday, September 11, 6 - 7:30 orchestra dress rehearsal in the venue

    • Saturday, September 12, 2026; 7:30 p.m. St. Luke’s - Opening Night Concert (Call is 6 pm)
