gabriel chona Rueda
Gabriel Chona Rueda, a Colombian-Canadian tenor, is a versatile performer and dedicated educator currently pursuing dual Master’s degrees in Vocal Performance/Pedagogy and Arts Leadership at the University of Houston. Gabriel is thrilled to make his debut with the Houston Chamber Choir for their performance of Mozart’s Requiem.
Gabriel’s choral journey began as a boy soprano with the Calgary Boys' Choir and has since evolved into a career rooted in ensemble excellence. He currently serves as tenor section leader for St. Thomas Episcopal Church and the Houston Saengerbund, and is a cantor at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. He previously held a section leader position at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver and has sung with university ensembles including the UBC University Singers.
In addition to his ensemble work, Gabriel is active on the operatic stage. Recent engagements at the Moores School of Music include the role of Emperor Altoum in Puccini’s Turandot and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi. He approaches ensemble singing with the same dramatic and musical sensitivity he brings to solo performance.
He is honored to join the Houston Chamber Choir for this masterwork by Mozart and is grateful to contribute his voice to such a distinguished ensemble.
